Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

Yeah, I meant it just proves that he's telling the truth about his role, not necessarily that he's town aligned.

The problem here is that picking off a quiet one doesn't tell us a huge amount; if they haven't voted for anyone and nobody has voted for them then we learn very little.

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

[Unvote: No Vote] So, I believe that Chimpster is who he says he is. The flavour sort of fits and it's not the sort of ability that a scum player usually has. It's also extremely easy to prove whether he's lying or not (as he can fire the ability), so it'd be a rubbish bluff. Firing it on day 1, how...

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

Surely if the janky cards don't know each other, then it's more of a reason to do a day 1 lynch. Yes, we don't get information from who votes for who, but the janky cards also cannot protect each other (aka not vote for each other) so they might end up killing one of their own. Personally, I think ...

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

seems fair, Rob, at this stage. I'm never sure on day one whether we go for it and lynch someone or hedge our bets and hold fire until we have more input. Always lynch someone day 1. It's literally the only way that you get any data; if you don't do it then the bad guys nix someone at random overni...

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

Note that Chimpster hasn't revealed his role, he's just claimed a card. I'm still not sure that we want to be mass claiming card names yet, for the same reasons that I said above. The chances of us getting anything positive out of this are pretty slim (there are a ton of competitive cards, so the ch...

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

Let's be a little bit careful with claims. While we need to gain as much information as we can, we really don't want to give away who our power roles are and that may well be easy to extrapolate from card identities.

Vote: Swiftie as a gentle prod to check in.

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

I always feel that we need to hear from everyone before voting starts unless someone hasn't posted at all. Unless someone lets slip that they're analog dreamers. Except we have a week to get a resolution, so we shouldn't wait too long before movement occurs. Also, having some votes swinging your wa...

Re: Jank in the Deckbox - New Mafia Game

I think my deck sleeve is slightly illegal in that I can just about see through it - and it's one of those really trendy Snare sleeves from FFG. Also, whoever's right behind me in this deckbox, please can you move your elbow as it's digging me in the ribs. I'm a dull, but indispensable part of all ...

Re: Introducing The Competitive Player’s Handbook

I'm really not sure why the writer starts off by calling Netrunner "essentially a children’s’ card game". That's a strange statement and one that's way off in my opinion. There's a reference to this in a Winning Agenda article (which may be where this originally came from), and it sums up...

Re: Introducing The Competitive Player’s Handbook

It's a light hearted jab at the hobby that we all share and enjoy, no more than that. Believe me, I'm fully aware and appreciative that this game is full of depth, complexity and strategy that actually make it very difficult for children. However, whenever I try to explain it to friends or family th...

Re: Introducing The Competitive Player’s Handbook

This is a really good point that I wanted to touch on as well. The majority of players that go to a tournament know that they almost certainly can't win, and probably won't even make the cut. But they go anyway, pay their entry money and have a good time. I have nothing but admiration, respect and g...

Re: Introducing The Competitive Player’s Handbook

Competitive is a slightly silly and divisive word, to be honest. For these articles I've taken it to mean people who want to enter and win tournaments, but you could just as easily take it to mean wanting to put up a good fight in your casual games, or learning to enjoy tournaments in a way that sui...

Re: Hijinks at Hogwarts - Gryffindors Win!

They tried to kill you twice, actually. The set-up gave the Slytherins a bunch of one shot spells in addition to their nightly curse, and one of those one shots was another curse (so once per game they could hit two people in a night). On night 1, they decided to curse both you and Shanodin. Unfortu...

Re: Hijinks at Hogwarts - Gryffindors Win!

Well that sucks. I miss one day and get taken out by a random mechanic I didn't know existed. That's not true. You were taken out because everyone knew you were scum so ended the lesson intentionally before you posted. You were just outplayed, that's all :p Yep, this. They effectively manipulated t...

Re: Hijinks at Hogwarts - Gryffindors Win!

So, answers to the two questions that have come up so far: 1. Mendax was killed by the mechanics of the potion lesson, primarily because you meanies hadn't given him time to brew his potion. 2. Guy hadn't used his one shot protection up, but as I'd written it killing him the first time also confirme...

Re: Hijinks at Hogwarts - Potions

Click! Click! Click! The class were heartily sick of Colin Creevey by now. He'd been buzzing around the whole day, annoying them with his photos. But now for some reason it felt like he wanted the class to curse him, and was actively encouraging them to do so. Eventually their patience snapped, and ...

Re: Hijinks at Hogwarts - Potions

All around the class room students began making the health tonic, which seemed to be typical of the fiddly potions that Snape enjoyed setting them. Concentrating on the instructions was difficult, what with the overwhelming urge to gossip amongst themselves about what had happened in the last few le...

What do we think will dominate the event? CI, Whizz and Hayley What do you expect to see the most of? CtM and ETF rush decks. A resurgence of Anarch, much to Joey's chagrin. What do you think will underperform? Agreed with Dave that Sync isn't as good as people thought it was. What do we think will...
