Cheevs :: 2016

Postby Pete » Fri Dec 18, 2015 11:43 am

In 2015 I finally achieved a long-standing goal of mine which was to win a sweet Netrunner playmat. Hurrah! :D

I have a few Netrunner-related achievements (cheevs) that I'd like to get over the course of 2016. None of these are particularly about improving as a player on the competitive scene; rather they're more about community 'cos that floats my boat.

In no particular order then...

  • Breakfast of Champions :: "Organise" another Full English brekkie before the Oxford Regional.
  • I Did It All By Myself :: Win The Bell.
  • CHOO CHOO! :: Scoop Brendan|Joey|James|Guy|Stu|James|Phil|Rahul in a tourney.
  • Goliath Awaits :: Sit down opposite Evilgaz, fix him with a 1000-yard stare, say "You are weak", scoop him. :P
  • Got Milk? :: Establish a Game of Thrones meta in Oxford.
  • Meet The Legend :: Play MendaxX.
  • Bit Vague :: Do "something" to make the Readox Netrunner scene more inclusive.
  • Fluff Piece :: Write an article for Netrunners.co.uk.
  • There Can Be Only One :: Play King Mob.
  • Road Trip :: Attend 3 Store Champs.
  • King of Beers :: Buy Andy "6010" Parsons a bottle of Stella and watch him open it in style.
  • I'll Bring A Whiteboard :: Get Brendan to explain eigenvector math to me again on the train down to Bristol.
  • I HEART JOHNO! :: High-5 Johno! (Can be 'cheeved multiple times.)
I'd dig to hear about any cheevs you have for the new year. If you share them then I might be able to help you achieve them.

Let's do this thing!

I've been really psyching myself up for the tournement season this year. Following my lackluster efforts to attend much of the BABW, the World's reports and twitch streams really got my excitement up for the game. I'd set myself some goals for this years tournement season, and I guess I'll throw in some unrelated "cheevs" in too!

  • Little Leagues :: Get a top 4 position at a Store Champs
  • Status Quo :: Get a top 16 position at a Regionals
  • Big Leagues :: Get into the top 50% of the Nationals standings

The first 3 for me are my "results" related - I want to do better at Store Champs then last year (managed to get into a top 8 cut at cardiff 2015), managed to get 16th place at Oxford Regionals so I want top place at least as well as last year, and I want to give as good as I get at Nats!

  • Airmiles :: Go to worlds
  • Always Two, There Are :: Place higher then The Dark Lord at an event
  • New Threads :: Get a Dayjob Playmat
  • Crash Course :: Learn how to play something other than weyland or HB FA
  • Perfect World :: Play Nasir in the meta where he is top tier*

*Not a serious Cheev, given up on nasir and moved on to my bioroid overlord :P

More to come as I think them up!

Great plan Pete!

I think my list will be the following:

- Shed my "Trampoline" moniker (it was self chosen but I want to make it no longer make sense)
This is likely to include:
- Come in the top 2/3 of Nationals (presuming I go which I hope to)
- I was thinking of having "make a cut" as an achievement, but I think I might have "look like I might make the cut at some point even if I fall a little behind it" as I think that might be more realistic

- Develop one deck idea that makes people raise their eyebrows at NRUK, go "interesting, it might just vaguely work" - pilot this at a tournament.
- Write an article for NRUK - I have been toying with a "How to build jank" article if people were interested in that.
- Crush Pete continually, make all of his dreams turn to dust, and make every Netrunner moment that he has one where he is reminded of my endless superiority. :P
-

I like the idea here, and I like the idea of returning to it in 12 months to see if I can make these objectives reality. So here we go:

Great Success
I'm not actually very good at the game, so I do want to set some objectives to improve my overall ability.
  • Contest the Bell (e.g. place 2nd in a ReadOx tourney)
  • Make top 4 at a GNK
  • Make a cut in a Store Champs or higher
  • Avoid great shame at Nationals

Nomadic
I want to play more! And I want to travel and see more metas.
  • Attend 4 Store Championships
  • Attend 2 Regionals
  • Attend Nationals
  • Attend Worlds

Face for radio
I also obviously want to expand NRG as a channel
  • Stick to a reliable schedule, releasing at least one video a week for the whole of 2016.
  • Experiment with live streaming
  • [REDACTED]
  • Film 8 tournaments at SC or higher
  • Some generic stuff about increasing subscriber numbers and community, but I have no specific target numbers in mind

Buds
The most important part of the game to me is the social side and friends in the game (near and far) that make it so much fun.
  • Help my buds achieve their objectives, however I can!

Great idea, I had some objectives already but this has made me think of some more

Main Objectives
  • Make top 4 in a Store Championship, I had multiple 5th places last year so would be nice to go one better
  • Make top 50 at Nationals, was 58th Last year
  • Make top 16 at a Regionals, best last year was 23rd
  • Win a GNK, I did win one last year but had a bye in round 1 so would be nice to win without a bye
  • Someone from Aldershot to a win a regionals or nationals

Fun Objectives
  • Play every faction in tournaments
  • Win games by Net Damage, Meat Damage and Brain Damage, bonus point if I manage to do this all with the same deck
  • Attend at least 3 regionals, 2 nationals, 7 store championships. This is one more than I attended last year
  • Score two agendas in one turn

Main Objectives
  • Retain or gain a title of some description (Store, Regional, National, World)
  • Actually take proper decks I know and understand to tournaments and stop trying to be hipster
  • Get Timo, Dylan or one of the other Nottingham Massive to win something biggish and get some recognition for our cracking little scene (it's not all about the South you know)
  • Return to Worlds with an even bigger bunch of Brits. We should be able to fill a plane dagnamit

Fun Objectives
  • Get away with playing Weyland to decent success at a tournament (Lukas promised me another 3/2 agenda)
  • Burn lots of people's houses down and / or trash all their nice things - I need some sort of running total
  • Get more blog posts done - maybe work out a way of doing it as a webcomic rather than having to type loads of words (also get someone else to promote it on REddit due to getting shadowbanned)
  • Do some commentary or podasting or something
  • Stop playing with fools on Jinteki.net and go out of my way to play real people (Stimhack league, Team GB, etc)

I think the idea is for Netrunnner related achievements, Gaz, not just personal objectives for the year.

My 2016 achievements:

A lot of these (either separately or together) may sound very unrealistic or even arrogant, but I'm aiming high. They are, without exception, my real goals for this year and even if they are a very high bar to set myself, I'm going to strive to do as well as I can to reach each one.

  • Win a Day Job mat and at least 2 Corroders
  • Win two Store Champs (one more than last year!)
  • Win a Regionals
  • Top 8 Nationals
  • Win Nationals
  • Attend Worlds

Fun achievements:

  • Write/finish some more Stimhack articles (I have a few that are half done that I just need to fatten up...)
  • Attend a KoS-style team tournament
  • Create Crisium Grid based conspiracy so that everybody burns their copies of Crisium Grid, thus making Gabe the ULTIMATE RUNNER
  • Did I say that last one out loud?

My goals for 2016

Pokemon - Collect them all... Win one of everything:
Win a Store Championship
Win a Regional
Win a National
Win Worlds - gotta aim for it right?

Visit new metas - I'd like to visit at least 3 groups I've not spent any time with.

Be the Dark Lord - crush Laurie and Rob's dreams and 2016 achievements

Beat the World Champion with Leela

Do more for the community:
Provide more promos and mats into local prize support
Continue writing articles (but make them better)
Provide more help to newer players
More...

I only have 1 Cheev this coming year.

Ready Player One: Play more Netrunner this year. In the last 12 months i have played less than 20 games at the Thirsty Meeples, I hope to make a minor contribution to the Oxford Meta at least once a month in 2016.

Merry Christmas Everyone

I'm always happy when I place in a tournament and would love to do that more consistently in 2016. Winning an SC still seems unlikely but I'd love to top 4 a couple!

Really want to place in a regionals this year, wasn't able to make any last year due to baby sheningans so my odds should be improved ;)

Hoping to find a little more time to push the site on, been really tough with the PGCE in full swing but a man can dream!

Andy P hasn't posted in this cheevs thread but I believe one of his cheevs for this year was to make the cut in a SC.

The Parson came 3rd at the Cardiff Store Champs! Gratz Andy! (Check out that link for some hot Andy action.)

Late to the show but:

1. Make the leap aka make the cut aka play good.

Getting better but certainly still need to work. The first step to improving will be my second cheev:

2. Don't oversleep and miss the train (train missed counter : 1 (Aldershot))

This will be tested week in, week out as SC season seemingly coincides heavily with 'all my friends are getting married' season. Which coincidentally links to my third:

3. Make sure there is time for other people/ things.

It's not really a 2016 thing as an always thing but it never hurts to forget. This is just a game in the end, no matter what my facial expressions suggest while I'm playing.
