Gold Rush Mafia - Town Win
Background
Goldrush Valley, USA. Perhaps the most inappropriate name for a settlement anywhere in the Old West, chosen more in hope than expectation. A place so hot, desolate and dry that even the flies have given up caring. The only mining town in the whole state never to have turned up even a sniff of gold.
The people here are the dregs of humanity. Some have been pushed out of more civilised parts, until they end up here, where no-one cares who you are or what you used to do. Some are running from something, hiding where you’d never think to look. And some people are so down on their luck that they just ended up here, the ultimate loser’s table in the casino of life.
Not that the town has a casino, of course. It’s a collection of twenty poorly constructed shacks, clustered around the laughably named main street. A tiny church and the world’s worst newspaper provide minimal diversion, but most of the town are usually to be found in the Dead Dog Saloon, the one and only watering hole, passing whatever time they can by drinking, fighting, and gambling for nickels and dimes.
In a place as dusty and dry as this, nothing ever happens. But once in a great while something lights a fuse, and then it explodes…
The Rules
1. Each day will be divided in to three phases; High Noon, Dusk and Night. Say what you like during High Noon. Dusk falls as soon as someone reaches enough votes to lock them in to be lynched. After that point everyone can still talk except the lynchee (they’re a bit busy). Once I’ve declared it night there’ll be no talkin’ until High Noon the next day.
2. Once you’ve said something, it stays said. Don’t go round editin’ your posts, or you’ll be out on your ear.
3. To vote for someone, use this format Vote: Nemamiah If it's not bold it doesn't count, and remember to add the space after the colon. You may Vote: No Lynch if you don’t want anyone to die.
4. You may change or retract your votes as many times as you wish until the lynch is locked. To help me track votes, it would be appreciated if you could either Unvote: No Vote or Change Vote: New Target when doing this.
5. For a lynch to be successful someone must reach over half the votes to lynch and get locked. If the day ends and there is no lock, no lynch will happen.
6. I will post vote counts as and when I can, but feel free to request one.
7. Please try to make at least one post every 72 hours. I will prod people who don’t manage this, and being repeatedly prodded may lead to sudden death.
8. Once your dead (or if you’re not in the game) no talkin’.
9. If you are unable to post for any reason or anticipate having very limited access, please let people know in thread. Doing so will exempt you from the 72 hour prodding.
10. Every player has a named character and a role within town. Not all roles come with powers, and most roles are different to the ‘traditional’ mafia names. When someone dies I will reveal who they were, which faction they belonged to, and what their role equates to. In addition, some characters may have powers that they are not aware of. Feel free to read in to your flavour, which may (or may not) give you some clues.
11. Thinking up good names is hard. As a result, I’ve lifted many names from the first or second edition of Doomtown. However, all character names have been shuffled up, so you won’t be able to deduce a character’s role from their name.
12. Please do not quote directly from your role PMs.
13. If you have any questions, please let me know either by PM or some other communication method.
14. Remember, it’s just a game! Please have fun and try to ensure that others do too.
The Players Are:
1. Elvortel | Little Jimmy | Piano Player | Sweetrock | Goon (Mafia)

4. Unitled | Travis Moone | Gravedigger | Town | Undertaker

Re: Gold Rush Mafia - Dawn Day 0
Day 1
It’s a day like any other in the Dead Dog saloon. Charlie stands behind the bar, transferring grime from a dirty rag to clean glasses and glaring at his patrons, who are slumped around tables in various poses of apathy. Little Jimmy sits in the corner, mangling a popular tune in to an unrecognizable racket on the tavern’s aging piano.
Suddenly the saloon doors crash open, bringing Little Jimmy’s fumblings to a sudden halt. Silhouetted against the harsh noon light stands Old Toothless Joe, and clutched in his triumphant hand is a nugget of gold the size of a baby’s head.
“Gold!” he cackles, somewhat unnecessarily. “A whole river of it, I found! I’m rich, you fools, just like I always told yer! Charlie, bring me a bottle of your not worst whiskey!”
Stirred in to sudden life, the townsfolk cluster around Joe, besieging him with questions about where he found the gold, whether there’s more out there, and if they might have a bit of that whiskey. Joe just laughs, mumbles about how he’s going to buy a real fancy house with windows where the holes are, and begins a dedicated and precipitous slide in to inebriation. Frustrated, the tavern empties as the entire population of Boomtown rushes out in to the hills, eager to claim their own fortune.
Several hours later they traipse back, dusty, forlorn, in desperate need of a drink but no richer than before. Coming back in to the tavern, they are greeted by the sight of Joe slumped over his table. There’s an arresting amount of blood all over the place, presumably from the bullet hole burned in to the back of Joe’s head, and an equally arresting lack of any gold nuggets the size of a baby’s head. Muttering an extensive variety of curse words, Charlie stamps off to find a mop and start clearing up.
Now, mining law is pretty clear. Whoever finds the gold, gets the gold. But if that person’s dead, well, maybe the gold belongs to….. the town? Around the tavern, cerebral cogs start to whirr as hands inch closer to holsters. Who can be trusted? Who killed Joe? Where is the gold seam? And when will Charlie be back to pour some drinks?

Howdy.
'Name's Travis, pleased to meetcha.
So, clearly we've got some nefarious types lurking in the town. I'd venture to say they're lurking in the shadows at the moment, so let's keep an eye out for who's talkin, and who's not so much.

Re: Gold Rush Mafia - High Noon Day 1
My mother taught me how to speak without a western lilt I'm afraid, sorry not to join in with all you common hillbillies.
I'm really going to try to not fly off the handle this game, I hope people don't read anything into that other than we've suffered two crushing defeats as town and I need to change the way I play. I'm going to try and be a little less certain in my suspicions, hopefully it will help to keep dicussion flowing when it needs to.
I want to nudge the quiet ones but I'm not sure about lynching them any more, really want to reassess how we play the early game.
Determined to win this one!

Dagnabbit! This here sit-hew-a-shun is a real shame. Ol' Joe was a good friend but as it happens he owed me a dollar.

I do find it most peculiar how both Joey and Sixtyten have made allusions to extra rules or win conditions. Maybe they have something to share with the rest of us?

Just waiting for:
Tim
Cwoac
Mendax
Smashman
to introduce themselves. I don't think there's a need to chivvy just yet, but it's useful to have an eye on who has been posting.
As for rules: this is a homebrewed variety of mafia - who knows what evil schemes Nem has in store for us. I certainly read the intro flavour as almost a tontine style situation where the last person left alive gets the spoils... After the last two absolute clusterfucks for the town I was hoping people either wouldn't be too hasty or head down endless discussion tunnels to nowhere.

Once again: just trying to get info out of people. If folks are going to hint at knowledge, why shouldn't I ask for elaboration to see if it tallies with my own?

Re: Gold Rush Mafia - High Noon Day 1
Wow that was one of the fastest jumps to a lynch vote I've seen! Not against it on principal as we always have to make a lynch day 1 so there is a fair amount of random guesswork at this stage.
Though I think I would like a little bit more discussion before a full lynch goes ahead.

Re: Gold Rush Mafia - High Noon Day 1
Yeah, that was an odd jump of logic there Johno, I didn't see too much wrong with elvortel's question, it's certainly one we need to consider if the game is slightly mutated.
Are you suggesting that he's suspicious because he is trying to get information out of people or because alt win conditions is a given?
