BABW: August 1st 2015

Postby Johno » Thu Jun 11, 2015 8:35 am

Some advance notice for this one: We're very happy to announce that Reading will host a regional qualifier for BABW
Bring Another Brit to Worlds: Reading Qualifier
Saturday August 1st 2015

We're using our August tournament slot for this, so we'll be at Eclectic Games. Doors open and registration at 10am. First round starts at 11am. Entry £10.
Swiss format, probably five rounds, with a cut, probably to 4. Prize support from the Summer GNK.

Two week cut-off is in effect, so all cards up to The Underway will be legal. Old Hollywood will NOT be legal.

Will tickets be sold in advance by EG? and I assume there is a capacity limit?

Need to work out these details, especially since if we expect a very large turnout, we might consider using out-of-shop space. I think at this stage, we're looking at Store Championship level of turnout. EG will probably allow you to purchase a ticket in advance, but let me confirm.

Johno, can you add me (Daniel Jones) on Facebook so I can add you to the TO group. Cheers.
Oh that, don't worry about that, it's my negotiating tank.

Update on this: there'll be a hard cap of 40, although I expect Store Championship level turnout (just over 20, mostly Londoners :P)

Eclectic are happy to sell tickets in advance. You should specify that it's for our August tournament, since we also have a July tourney between then and now.

Theoretically they're available (I bought mine on Tuesday), they're supposed to be on the website for eclectic but as far as I can tell they're not. Next time I'm in I'll speak to them and try and get that rectified. Best bet right now is to phone them up. They should also be taking a list of names so Johno and I have a decent handle on numbers.

Thanks for the reply! I called a couple of days back and they said they were in the process of making them available online. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some obvious huge red button someplace.

I'm reliably informed these are available now:

http://www.eclecticgames.co.uk/netrunner-babw-tournament.ir?pid=9&id=47380

Ignore the text. Format will either be six rounds of swiss and a top 4 cut or 5 and a top 8 depending on numbers I think. (Double elimination). Staff have generously agreed to stay late in order to facilitate double elim as long as we don't take the piss (I.e. as long as we're finished by 9-9.30 ish).

A couple of updates for this one: Most importantly, Old Hollywood has missed the cut-off date, so will NOT be legal.

Also, in line with the ANRPC stance on the subject, proxying of cards from Future Proof and Opening Moves will be permitted (but only these packs). All proxies must be as close as possible approximations of the original cards (i.e. this isn't an excuse for custom alt art!) and of course must be indistinguishable from other cards in your deck when sleeved and facedown.

Finally, it probably goes without saying, but we'll be using the rules from the most recent FAQ and Tournament Rules that were just released from FFG.

Assuming a kickoff at 11, might look something like:

Rd 1: 11.00-12.05
Rd 2: 12.10-13.15
Rd 3: 13.45-14.50
Rd 4: 14.55-16.00
Rd 5: 16.05-17.10
(Rd 6: 17.15- 18.20)
Start around 17.30 ish? Cut etc will depend on numbers and such. Assuming about 30 people, my preference would either be a 5 round swiss top 8 cut, or 6 round swiss top 4, but it'll be up to Johno, who's TOing. We've arranged for staff to keep the venue open late. A Top 8 bracket has 6/7 rounds of 35 min games, so probably maxes out at ~4hours, finishing at around 9.30-10pm, which is about our cutoff.

Currently 18 pre-booked tickets sold, draft on the next Tuesday (£5).

James pretty much nailed it here. It will definitely be five rounds of Swiss, with probably a cut to 8 assuming we have more than about 24. There'll be a short break after the Swiss before the cut starts, but I'd say about half 5 sounds right.

Chimpster wrote:What is the parking situation like chaps? Anywhere you can point us too that's reasonable?

Ideally, you'd be getting the train, since it's a very convenient short walk from the station.

If parking is non-negotiable, you have a couple of options:
* The Oracle/Queens Road: these two are the same price-wise I believe. Queens Road is smaller but both are convenient for Eclectic and convenient-ish for the A33 (and by extension the M4)
* Slightly cheaper might be Kings Meadow. This tends to be my car park of choice when parking is unavoidable. It's a short walk from the action, and actually pretty convenient for Eclectic. It's uncovered and very small though, (but rarely fills). It takes a bit more work to get to from the M4 though.
* There's a Park and Ride option from the Madejski Stadium. I know nothing of this price-wise (it may well be cheapest if you're not carpooling), but the bus presumably brings you to the station (close to Eclectic) and the Madejski is very convenient from the M4.
* Obviously you can try to find a residential street to park for free, but a non-permit one will be hard to find and the permit requirements spread pretty far from the centre of town. Probably not worth the punt in my opinion (Joey's inside knowledge notwithstanding)

Edited with prices:
Assuming you're parking from 10am to 8pm:
* The Oracle: £20
* Queens Road: £14
* King's Meadow: £7.50
* Park and Ride: probably not running because of a football match, sorry.
