Tournament: November 7th 2015

Postby Johno » Tue Oct 20, 2015 8:40 am

Come one, come all!

November Tournament
Saturday November 7th 2015

We'll be at Eclectic Games (don't forget it's in a new location just off Broad Street); doors open and registration from 10am; first round starts at 11am. Entry £5.
Five rounds of Swiss, with GNK prize support. All cards up to Universe of Tomorrow will be legal. Data and Destiny will only be legal if it's been released by 31st October.

NB: I probably won't be in attendance for this one, but even if not it will go ahead and James will step in to TO for me. Thanks James!

I will be away at Indiecon that weekend indulging in my annual weekend of role-playing virginal Mormons with bad acne and badder Bibles on the English Riviera.

I'll be rooting for James to maintain his stranglehold on The Bell.

James? Did you mean Brendan? You're from Oxford!

Brendan's proven puissance needs no support. I'm rooting for the underdog! (Not sure James "No Mercy" Nowiekciaki really merits the "underdog" tag given all the winnage he generates but I'll roll with it for now.)

Plus, I slum it so often in Reading that I almost feel like an honorary Gridder.

Any chance we can make it 28th or 31st for D&D cut off?. As usual 2 weeks seems excessive. And there is a good chance it'll come out 27th/28th. I think 11 days is plenty.

If I'm running it it will be legal as long as there are copies in Eclectic.

I think if it comes out the Wednesday before, i.e. on the 4th then this is unfair and too soon. But if it's the Wednesday before that giving people 1.5 weeks than that's fine...

At another Netrunner tournament that weekend so I can't make it, hopefully Dave will bring the bell back to Aldershot where it belongs :)

I'm not seeing D&D on this week's release list.

:(

Are you sure it will be in tomorrow, Joey?

Given how far in advance it was released, this is fine by me (and I know James agrees). Updated the first post with a new cut-off of 31st.

EG said it would be this week for sure, on Fridays release list and in Tuesday/Wednesday. But looks like that may not be the case now. Have to wait and see.

Gentle reminder to Alex White to bring the cards he borrowed and subsequently took home from Gerry to this one if you come. I think it was public support and a couple of others?

Haven't seen Gerry in a while but he may make an appearance saturday. If not, we can hold the cards for him in Eclectic.

I am coming to this! (I was set to attend a role-playing convention on the English Riviera this weekend, but I think my role-playing days are over.)

I will be bringing Leela as my Runner. I like the cards in the Criminal faction; Leela's ability is also interactive and I dig that. I have no idea what I'll bring as my Corp.

In related news, Brendan is coming -- tring tring -- and an all-new gladiator will be making his debut for The Oxford Massive! Be afraid Gridders, be very afraid.

Honestly, I'm not feeling confident about this weekend. I'll still show, but don't expect anything strong from me. I'm all burned out from defending Oxford's honour last tournament.

Luckily, Pete is coming! And our Secret Weapon that Pete alluded to. Reading won't know what hit them.

Predictions

Postby Pete » Sat Nov 07, 2015 8:09 am

Before the sun sets on this day, I predict

  • Joey will have won the tourney!
  • The Bell will be nestled snug against a vaporizer.
  • Brendan will lament how rubbish Geist is... and still come second.
  • The "Choo Choo When You Score An Astro" meme will finally go viral!
  • A new challenger will carve their name in lights!
You better believe I've got three Scorched Earths baby.

Oh! As for my performance in the tourney? Just call me Morpheus...

Top banana netrunning at Eclectic Games today!

There was a really good vibe at the tourney today. Friendly, good banter, a nice spread of IDs, good work everyone. I reckon Dave really appreciated me briefly pausing his game just so that I could unleash an energetic "CHOO CHOO!"

Tale of the Tape

  • 1st: Mike from London (?) rocking PE and ?
  • 2nd: Brendan playing Stealth Andy and SYNC
  • 3rd: Pete (me!) playing Leela and NBN: Making News Yellow Coats
I HAZ WONEZ A PLAYMZ4TORZZZZ!!1!

#achievementunlocked #questcompleted

Roxxors!!1!

  • Lucy Batty-ing a Neural Katana for a net damage win!
  • Rahul rocking those sweet Toolbox credits on a Study Guide!
  • Matt doing crazy Hayley shenanigans with Sheherezade, Technical Writer, LLDS Processor, and Chameleon.
  • SYNC landing Midseasons... it hurts so bad when you're Leela and running Resource-based economy.
  • Alex for going for the win against Lucy rather than settling for a timed win! #respect #loveit
Massive props to Rahul for stepping up to the plate in what I believe was his first tournament. Lad went home with a sweet deckbox and an alt-art Plascrete! Rahul also picked up Honor & Profit so we can expect some craycraysweet Jinteki decks over the Xmas hols.

Thanks for running the tourney James!
