[Birmingham] Uplink 20 1 Core Set Tournament - Birmingham 4th July

Postby sxk634 » Thu Jun 11, 2015 2:41 pm

After a brief pause whilst everyone attends some "other" tournament in Birmingham, we are back. Back to the start in fact! We will be running a 1 Core Set Only tournament at Waylands Forge on Saturday 4th July. So now is a great time to bring along all those friends you badgered into buying a core set at the expo!

Prizes will be drawn from the Summer game night kit and are as follows -

1st place - Choice of alt-art Femme Fatale card or Tri-Maf Contact playmat

2nd place - Unclaimed prize from 1st place

Top 4 - Haas Bioroid deck box

First 16 registered on the day - Alt-art Swordsman card

The tournament will be 4-rounds of swiss, with placings determined by final prestige.

And please remember - 1 CORE SET ONLY!!!! So no triple desperados please.

As usual the event will be held at Wayland's Forge (Unit LG06A Zellig, Custard Factory, Gibb Street, Digbeth, B9 4AA Birmingham).

Small reminder that this is tomorrow - and one core set only!

I had personally forgotten which cards are actually in the core set. I cannot believe we used to be so restricted in the choice of ICE!

Special mention to James and Steve for keeping the Jinteki fires burning. My loyalty didn't run that deep, sadly.

Enjoyed myself massively, probably mainly due to winning a lot (not my usual style) but a large part of it for me was being able to map out potential scenarios in my head fairly accurately (due to the limited card pool), which I simply can't do very well in the wider meta. Putting cards in the bin and being able to be pretty sure that they'll stay there is quite the novelty.

Following the draft tournament and this event, I'm keen on trying some other non-standard formats. ID draft sounds good (with possible stipulations/limitations as discussed). I was also considering the idea of no core set cards, although I think you can build a pretty robust RP deck still like that, so perhaps not.

I've written some musings on the day which I shall post later. Do please come and correct me about our games when I misremember something.

Was everyone Gabe?

I think ID draft sounds like a good plan. I think fun was had at Gloucester.

Sad I couldn't make it. Sounds like a good time.
Oh that, don't worry about that, it's my negotiating tank.

7 Gabes, 2 Noises (of which I was one) and a Kate.

I think it was 6 HB, 2 NBN and 2 Jinteki. The two NBN made top 4 though.

Just registered on this site (with a strangely apt randomly-generated handle) to say thank you to Steve in particular but everyone else I met on Saturday.

I had a fun time (assisted by luck and frankly the generosity of my opponents) and hope to see you again in the future. As mentioned, I don't have all the cards and certainly don't have the knowledge to be competitive in a normal tournament, but I would definitely be interested in other future playing-field-levelling events towards the casual end of the scale.

I can confirm that the Games Night Kit (prize kit) has now come in. So please do drop in to collect your prizes.

They have a list of who is owed what, so there shouldn't be any problems. If there are just let me know.

Another possibility is to pick your prize up on the next casual game day, which I'm just putting up the details for. Saturday 15th August. See you then!
